OpenSID — Saab SID Information Display Tool

OpenSID was an open-source project that modified the Saab Information Display (SID) to show real-time engine data. We were one of the earliest US retailers to support the OpenSID hardware.
What is the Saab SID?
The SID (Saab Information Display) is the small LCD screen in the center of the dashboard on Saab 9-3 and 9-5 models. Stock, it shows basic trip information, outside temperature, and radio information. OpenSID replaces the stock firmware to display performance-relevant data.
OpenSID Data Channels
- Boost pressure (real-time and peak hold)
- Oil temperature
- Intake air temperature
- Ignition timing advance
- Knock retard (individual cylinders)
- Battery voltage
- Ethanol content (with flex-fuel sensor)
The OpenSID hardware was a small PCB that interfaced between the car's I-bus and the SID unit. Installation required removing the SID from the dashboard — a 30-minute job with a trim tool set.
